Lau Posto Recipe / Bottle Gourd Curry with poppy seeds paste is one of the Bengali comfort side dishes for lunch in prickly summer. The recipe is straightforward to prepare and of course, it’s healthy also, as there is no spice used; so very well one can include this recipe in his diet chart.

The types of equipment used for this recipe are

  • Sil batta/ grinding stone/Blender; sil Nora/sil batta is essential equipment to grind the poppy seeds, as they are not blended properly in a blender(if you don’t have then use a blender)
  • Small bowls
  • Knife
  • Kadai with lid

The ingredients required for this recipe are

  • Posto/ poppy seeds
  • Bottle gourd: Use fresh green bottle gourd
  • Cooking oil: It must be mustard oil; otherwise you won’t get the required flavor
  • Other than these we need fresh red chili, green chili, chopped coriander leaves, and salt

How to make Lau Posto Recipe / Bottle Gourd Curry with poppy seeds paste

Put posto/ poppy seeds in the sil, sprinkle a little water over it and grind it, and make a smooth paste with the help of a sil batta/blender (if you use a blender, then soak the poppy seeds for 15- 20 minutes, before blending them)

Peel and cut the bottle gourd into very small pieces and keep them aside

Heat oil in a kadai and add 2 green chilies and one red chili

Add the bottle gourd, and stir them for a minute after adding salt

Cover the lid, and allow them to cook for 4-5 minutes on low –medium flame

Open the cover add the poppy seed paste and mix them well

Turn off the flame; add silted green chili and serve with rice

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Kg Bottle-gourd/lau
  • 3 tbsp Poppyseeds/posto/khaskhas
  • 1.5 tbsp Mustard oil
  • 2 tbsp Chopped coriander leaves
  • 4 green chili
  • 1 whole red chili
  • salt
