Masoor Dal Bharta / Mashed Red Lentils

MASOOR DAL BHARTA

Today I will share a very simple and easy recipe that is Masoor Dal Bharta / Mashed Red Lentils. For this, you need only 5 ingredients other than red lentils, but make it super tasty. If you need, you can make it a liquid dal by adding the required quantity of water, which can go well with steamed rice.

The types of equipment required for this recipe are

Mixing bowl/ plate

Big vessel

1 sq feet muslin clothes

Kadai/Fry pan

Spatula

The ingredients required for this recipe are

Red lentils/ Masoor dal: Here we have to take Masoor dal without skin.

Red chili: You can take whole dry Guntur red chili, which should be a little hot.

Cooking oil: Here cooking oil is mustard oil; no other oil will give that much flavor as mustard oil.

Other than dal and red chili and oil we need fresh onion, garlic, and salt

Preparation / How to make Masoor Dal Bharta / Mashed Red Lentils

Take one cup of Masoor dal in a bowl and wash it thoroughly

Now take a muslin cloth and strain the water twice or thrice

After washing it thoroughly, put the dal in the clothe and tie it properly

Now take sufficient water in a vessel and put the tied clothe with dal in the vessel

Put the vessel in the gas oven and cover the lid, and allow it to cook for 7-8 minutes on medium flame

 Turn off the gas flame after 8 minutes, and allow it to cook further, without heat for 5 minutes.

Open the lid after 5 minutes and untie the muslin clothe and take out the cooked dal

Heat mustard oil in a kadai, add the red chilies, and fry until they become dark brown in color

After frying the chilies, fry the garlic cloves until they become light brown in color

Same way fry the sliced onion

Now take a big plate and put all the items there

Add mustard oil and salt over the fried red chili

With the help of your finger, break the red chilies into small pieces as they become crispy after frying

Now mix well all the items. e.g. dal, garlic, onions, and the whole red chili

Divide them into equal parts and make them big apple size balls, and serve with hot piping rice

  • 5 whole red chili
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 1 Onion(sliced)
  • 3 tbsp Mustard oil
  • salt

Instructions
 

  • Take one cup of Masoor dal in a bowl and wash it thoroughly
  • Now take a muslin clothe and strain the water twice orthrice
  • After washing it thoroughly, put the dal in the clothe andtie it properly
  • Now take sufficient water in a vessel and put the tiedclothe with dal in the vessel
  • Put the vessel in the gas oven and cover the lid, and allowit to cook for 7-8 minutes in medium flame
  •  Turn off the gasflame after 8 minutes, and allow it cook further, without heat for 5 minutes.
  • Open the lid after 5 minutes and untie the muslin clothe andtake out the cooked dal
  • Heat mustard oil in a kadai, and add the red chilies and fryuntil they become dark brown in color
  • After frying chilies, fry the garlic cloves until theybecome light brown in color

  • Add mustard oil and salt in over the fried red chili
  • With the help of your finger, break the red chilies intoscoarse powderas they become crispy after frying
  • Now mix well all the items .e.g. dal, garlic, onions and thewhole red chili
  • Divide them into equal parts and make them big apple sizeballs, and serve with hot piping rice
