In Bengali, the raw jackfruit is called ‘Enchor’. It has a meat-like texture, and Bengalis are preparing this like meat; because of that Bengalis call it ‘Gach Pantha’ (in Bengali gach means tree and Pantha means goat). Today I will share how to make Enchor diye Cholar Dal / kacha kathal diye cholar dal /Raw Jackfruit curry with lentils, which is so tasty, you will really love it.

Equipment required

  • Kadai
  • Spatula
  • Serving plate

Ingredients

  • Raw jackfruit-750 gm
  • Bay leaves-4
  • Cinnamon stick-1/2 inch
  • Cardamom-1
  • Star anise-1
  • Cumin seeds-1/2 tbsp
  • Onion-2 (chopped)
  • Ginger garlic paste-1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder-1 tbsp
  • Red chili powder-1/2 tbsp
  • Kashmiri mirch powder-1/2 tbsp
  • Cumin powder-1/2 tbsp
  • Coriander powder-1/2 tbsp
  • Chana dal (soaked)-3/4 cup
  • Tomato (curry cut)-2
  • Ghee-1 tbsp
  • Garam masala-1/4 tbsp
  • Chopped coriander leaves-1 tbsp
  • Oil-2 tbsp
  • Salt

How to make Enchor diye Cholar Dal / kacha kathal diye cholar dal /Raw Jackfruit curry with lentils

Heat oil in a pan and add bay leaves and cinnamon, cardamom, and star anise

Now add the cumin seeds

As they splutter and sizzle, then add the chopped onion and sauté them till they become translucent

Now add the ginger garlic paste and stir them for a minute

Now add the curry-cut jackfruit and sauté them for a minute

Add the powdered spices except for garam masala

Mix them well with the jackfruit

Now add the soaked chana dal and mix it well

Add curry cut tomato and cook for two minutes

Now add the salt, mix them, and cover it for two minutes

Open the cover, and add 1 cup of water

Mix them well

Now again cover the lid, and allow them to cook for 5-6 minutes on low flame to boil the dal and jackfruit

Now open the cover after 5 minutes and add ghee and garam masala, and mix them well

Now add the chopped coriander leaves

Transfer them to a serving plate and serve hot with rice or roti or paratha.

  • 1/4 tbsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • salt

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil in a pan and add bay leaves and cinnamon, cardamomand star anise
  • Now add the cumin seeds
  • As they splutter and sizzle, then add the chopped onion and sautéthem till they become translucent
  • Now add the ginger garlic paste and stir them for a minute
  • Now add the curry cut jackfruit and sauté them for a minute
  • Add the powder spices except garam masala
  • Mix them well with the jackfruit
  • Now add the soaked chana dal and mix it well
  • Add curry cut tomato and cook for two minutes
  • Now add the salt, mix them and cover it for two minutes
  • Open the cover, and add 1 cup of water
  • Mix them well
  • Now again cover the lid, and allow them to cook for 5-6minutes in low flame to boil the dal and jackfruit
  • Now open the cover after 5 minutes
  • Add ghee and garam masala, mix them well
  • Now add the chopped coriander leaves
  • Transfer them to a serving plate and serve hot with rice orroti or paratha.
